How Facelift Transforms Your Face and Neck for A Younger “You”

Facelift surgeon St. Louis

Many men and women are unhappy with the version of themselves reflected in the bathroom mirror. Gravity, sun exposure, genetics, smoking, and other factors can all contribute to premature aging and make you appear older than your peers. Dr. C.B. Boswell is a board-certified plastic surgeon. He can turn back time on your complexion by 10 years or more with facelift surgery at BodyAesthetic Plastic Surgery & Skincare Center.

What Can Facelift Do for You?

Facelift focuses on the middle and lower areas of the face where lines and wrinkles have creased the skin and fat deposits have shrunk and sank toward the jawline, causing jowling. The procedure removes loose, sagging tissues, redistributes fat pockets, and smooths the skin tissue. Facelift can also improve submental (under the chin) and neck concerns, such as “turkey wattle” and a double chin.

Men and women in their 40s to early 70s can benefit from facelift. Each face procedure is customized to your unique needs and facial structure. Younger adults may benefit from a mini facelift technique or a liquid facelift that uses various injectables and non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate the facial tissues.

Combining facelift with other facial plastic surgeries can provide additional benefits. Brow lift or eyelid surgery with facelift offers complete facial rejuvenation.

How Facelift Works to Renew Your Appearance

Previous facelift techniques were criticized for appearing unnatural and “windblown,” but today’s facelifts focus on restoring natural-looking youthful contours. Dr. Boswell makes incisions in the hairline at the temples that stretch down and around the area to the lower scalp. For chin and neck correction, another incision is made under the chin to remove excess fat and loose skin. He separates the fat and muscles from the skin tissues to trim or reposition fat and tighten fascial and muscle tissues. The skin is pulled upward and back to remove the excess tissue and secure the tissues in place with stitches and sutures.

How Long is Facelift Recovery?

The sutures are removed around one week after the facelift procedure, but scalp stitches may take longer to heal. Loose bandages wrap around your head and face to minimize bruising and swelling, and tiny drains remove fluid buildup during initial recovery. The drains are removed the next day by Dr. Boswell after an overnight stay in the hospital and you will go home with minimal bandages.

Most facelift patients return to work after two weeks unless they have a job that requires heavy lifting. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least four weeks after facelift surgery. Most of the bruising and swelling is gone two to three weeks after your procedure, and you may feel more comfortable going in public around this time. Full facelift results typically settle in about six months later when incision lines have healed and bruising, swelling, and discoloration are gone.

Facelift can transform your appearance and make you look like a younger version of yourself, taking about 10 years off your complexion. The results last an average of seven to 10 years, but most facelift patients still look younger than others because facelift allows them to age more gracefully.
