At BodyAesthetic Plastic Surgery, tissue fillers and neuromodulators—including Botox and Dysport—are among our most popular nonsurgical treatments. Both can reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, but they work in different ways.
Botox and Dysport
Neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport temporarily relax the muscles responsible for creating dynamic facial lines. By reducing muscle movement, these treatments can soften existing wrinkles and help prevent them from becoming more pronounced over time.
Although the effects are sometimes described as “paralyzing” a muscle, “relaxing” the muscle is a more patient-friendly description. When administered properly, neuromodulators can create a refreshed, natural-looking appearance without making the face look frozen or expressionless.
Tissue Fillers
As their name suggests, tissue fillers restore or add volume to targeted areas of the face. They may be used for three primary purposes:
- Restoring lost volume
Aging and significant weight loss can reduce facial volume, causing the skin to sag and facial contours to appear less defined. Restoring volume beneath the skin can create smoother, fuller contours and a more youthful appearance. For example, adding volume to the cheek area may help improve the appearance of nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls. - Softening lines and scars
Fillers placed beneath or within the skin can make certain lines, creases, and acne scars less noticeable by adding volume to the treated area. Fine lines around the mouth are one example of concerns that may be improved with filler. - Enhancing facial features
Fillers can also enhance areas that patients would like to appear fuller or more defined. Lip augmentation is one of the most common applications.
Combining Treatments for Comprehensive Results
Neuromodulators and tissue fillers may be combined with chemical peels, laser treatments, medical-grade skin care, and surgery to develop a personalized treatment plan. Using complementary treatments can help address wrinkles, volume loss, skin texture, and other signs of aging.
Many patients benefit from a combination of Botox or Dysport and tissue fillers. During your consultation, our team can help determine which treatments—or combination of treatments—may be appropriate for your goals.
